73.082 BF2292 – Tree-Lichen Beauty – Noctuidae – Cryphia algae

Tree-Lichen Beauty  NoctuidaeBryophilinae – Cryphia algae – colour code

STATUS Recorded in the UK mostly as a migrant species, with only a handful of records prior to 1991.  Since then, it has become more frequent in the southern and south east counties of England, with more frequent arrivals in sufficient numbers to breed.

A new species for Derbyshire in 2019, when one was trapped in a garden moth trap at Sandiacre by Ian Viles. The 2nd county record was 19th July 2022, when Steve Thorpe trapped one in his Breaston garden. Another has been trapped on 20th July & another on 29th July 2022 in an Allestree garden by Stephen Plant. Maybe indicative of a small influx of migrants or is this a new colonist into the county? Possibly now a resident in Derbyshire in the Sandiacre area, where seven individuals were recorded in 2023.

ID POINTERS – Fairly diagnostic

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing between July and September, with most migrant records recorded during July and August.
