70.146 BF1813 – Haworth’s Pug – Geometridae – Eupithecia haworthiata

Haworth’s PugGeometridae – Larentiinae – Eupithecia haworthiata – colour code

STATUSLast recorded Findern July 2021. A resident but locally distributed and uncommon in Derbyshire. It was once widespread in the county, but in 1986 was only known from one site situated in the south of the county. During 2008 it was being reported from an area around Carsington Reservoir and may well be spreading from that area, hence the below record from Belper, during August 2013, an unusual date.

ID POINTERS – A reddish band at the base of the abdomen helps to identify this small, otherwise grey-brown pug. Rather nondescript in markings with faint cross-lines and a weak, sometimes absent, discal spot.

FLIGHT PERIOD –  On the wing June. Easily flushed from the larval food plant – Traveller’s Joy.
