STATUS – A resident that is widely distributed and common in Derbyshire. Most often recorded in Autumn and can be the most numerous moth at this time of year. Found in deciduous woodland across the county.Sometimes recorded in the spring as some hibernate during mild winters.
ID POINTERS – The distinguishing feature is the outer edge of the forewing being rounded. Ground colour variable being light or dark shades of chestnut brown or orange-brown patterning can be plain or intricately marbled.
FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing September – October, sometimes into May.
