STATUS A resident that is fairly common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. Found in all areas across the county but most numerous in the southern areas of the Trent Valley.

ID POINTERS – The dark moon-shaped crescent on the hind wing is diagnostic. Usually shows strong, prominent pale veins running through the upper-wing. Oval and kidney mark usually dark centred. There is a row of black dots near the outer-edge of wing. Ground colour variable from greyish-brown, yellowish-brown to orange-brown.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing September – October.
