A great place to visit during wader migration is RSPB Frampton Marsh in Lincolnshire. You will have gathered by now that I rather like this place. Never crowded and always a chance of finding your own birds. Todays menu was an adult Pectoral Sandpiper; 5 Wood Sandpiper, 2 Spotted Redshank and plenty of Black-tailed Godwit, Ruff, Ringed Plover and Little Rnged Plover. Also a few Avocet were still tendering youngsters, a single Oystercatcher, Dunlin and Common Sandpiper, a few Lapwing, a calling Whimbrel and a couple of Green Sandpiper. Plenty of Little Egret were scattered all across the reserve. A very obliging Sedge Warbler sat in a nearby hedge drying off in the early morning sunshine. Photography can sometime be difficult here but today was an exception..
A few butterflies around, Painted Lady; Common Blue; Small Skipper; Peacock; SmallTortoiseshell; Gatekeeper; Meadow Brown; Large & Small White.
SATURDAY 3RD AUGUST – A 1st summer Night Heron has been frequenting Thornton Reservoir, Leicestershire for nearly a week, so managed to catch up with this bird on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately it was very difficult to see and photograph, as it was fishing in dense vegetation. A really bad record shot is placed at the bottom of this blog page. Year List now on 216
