Oblique Carpet Geometridae – Larentiinae – Orthonama vittata – colour code

STATUSLast recorded 29th May 2022 – A very rare moth in Derbyshire, thought to be an extinct resident. This specimen below,  the seventh county record, was trapped on 29/5/2022 in the south of the county.  There are a further six other published modern day records. One from Breaston  6/6/2021; one from Birch Vale 31 May 2019, one from South Derbyshire 30/8/2013; one from Darley Dale 2006; one in 2003 from Mercaston Marsh, 11th June; one from West Hallam 1978 and the only other record I can find is from 1959.

ID POINTERS – The ground colour of the forewing is straw coloured with a dark streak that runs from the wing tip to join the fine darker cross-lines. The median cross-band is dark but becomes pale towards the centre as it joins the costa. Within this central area is a dark discal spot.

FLIGHT PERIOD –  On the wing late May – June & August – September
