Mottled Pug Geometridae – Larentiinae – Eupithecia exiguata – colour code

STATUS – A resident species and widely distributed throughout Derbyshire. Has been recorded from all areas except the High Peak Grit. It is not uncommon especially throughout the Trent Valley.
 
ID POINTERS – This pug has a diagnostic curved leading edge to the wing. It is has a warm grey colour to the wing with a conspicuous central black spot, slightly elongated. Beyond the spot there are a series of small black wedges. Also a narrow pale outer cross-band, angled near leading edge. This combination of features is diagnostic.
 
FLIGHT PERIOD –  On the wing May – June.
