Narrow-winged Pug Geometridae – Larentiinae – Eupithecia nanata – colour code

STATUS – A resident that is widely distributed across the moorlands of Derbyshire, favours heather which is the food plant, generally uncommon elsewhere, so this record from Findern is most unusual. Latest records seem to indicate that it is represented down the Derwent and Trent Valleys.

ID POINTERS –  The narrow and elongated forewing with intricate light and dark grey marbling and strongly angled cross-lines with white edging is diagnostic. Usually a white spot in the discal mark and a prominent white tornal spot.

FLIGHT PERIOD –  On the wing May – August.
