The Clay Noctuidae – Hadeninae – Mythimna ferrago – colour code

STATUS A resident that is common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. Recorded from all areas of the county except the Peak Grit, where population levels are low.

ID POINTERS – A thick-set and broad-winged moth that gets its name from the clay colouration of the forewing. There is a black shaft running through a small white spot on each wing and a curved row of tiny dots forming a cross-line just inside the outer edge. The male has a broad black band on the underside of abdomen at the base.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing June – August
