The Snout Erebidae – Hypeninae – Hypena proboscidalis – colour code

STATUS A resident that is common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. Generally common across all areas of the county and is likely to be encountered wherever the larval food plant – Stinging Nettle (Urtica diocia) flourishes.

ID POINTERS – A slender body with triangular shaped wings  that are slightly hooked at the tip and a curved outer edge. A pale purplish-brown ground colour with broad darker brown cross-bands and lines. Upturned palps or snout.

FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing June – August.
