During the back end of March a few early spring migrants arrived on my local patch, with a sprinkling of Sand Martins and Chiffchaffs. Chiffchaffs were well established by early April, with 7 birds singing on territories at Staunton Harold Reservoir from 1st April .
A Great White Egret was a good patch year tick at Staunton Harold Reservoir also on 1st April and an inland fall of Kittiwakes prompted me to go looking for them, and I found 14 (12 adults) at Foremark Reservoir during the afternoon of 1st April. Sadly none at Staunton Harold Reservoir. A few Swallows and Blackcaps at Staunton Harold on 9th April but best local bird so far of the spring was a pair of Garganey at Greenacres, Barrow-on-Trent also on 9th April.
