A morning in the White Peak

I spent this morning, Saturday 20th May, up in the White Peak area of Derbyshire, in search of a few special flowers. I appeared to be too early for the Orchids that I was looking for, but did manage to find plenty of Dingy Skipper on the wing. I’m no expert on wild flowers, I’m on a learning curve and anxious to see some of the special plants that can be found in my home county. So, I discovered Spring Sandwort, a new flower for me, Meadow Saxifrage, another new flower and what I think is Southern Marsh Orchid, a single spike just breaking out into flower. The flower meadows at the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust reserve at Rose-end Meadows, were stunning. Full of Bluebell, Buttercup, Bugle, Meadow Saxifrage, Greater Stitchwort, Red Campion and Germander Speedwell. I’m sure I missed a lot more, but will save some for another time.
