An Elusive Butcher-bird

Sunday 29th March 2015 – At last, at my third attempt, finally saw the Beeley Moor, Derbyshire,  Great Grey Shrike. It has eluded me on two previous occasions but this morning in diabolical weather conditions, it performed really well for us. In heavy rain, grey cloud and extremely windy weather, I managed a few decent images by using Richard’s car as a hide. It took around 20 minutes or so for me to locate the bird, but once discovered, it was fairly faithful to an area that offered us, and the bird, some respite from the wind and rain. Along with a fly through Little Ringed Plover at Staunton Harold Reservoir and 2 Sand Martin at Swarkestone yesterday, my year list moves on to 157.
