I ran my 20W Actinic garden moth trap overnight on 16th February 2024. Results were – 3 Oak Beauty; 3 Common Quaker; 2 Dotted Border; 2 Hebrew Character; 1 March Moth.

I ran a garden moth trap overnight 9th February 2024 – results as follows:- 5 March Moth; 2 Common Quaker and singles of Oak Beauty, Pale Brindled Beauty, Hebrew Character, Tortricodes alternella (Winter Shade).

First Moth Trap of 2024

Mild conditions on 28th January persuaded me to run an overnight moth trap. Return was just 1 Pale Brindled Beauty, slightly disappointing. Nevertheless, the earliest date that I’ve ever recorded a moth in my garden in 20 odd years of moth recording.

Moth Trap – 23rd October 2023

I ran a garden moth trap over night on the 22nd October 2023. Just 4 moths of 4 species, a Juniper Carpet, a Red-green Carpet, a Light-brown Apple Moth and a November Moth agg outside the trap and one that got away. Totals – 4/4
