Cold Weather on the Move

Snow & ice was still prevalent this morning, although the thaw seemed to have set in. I managed to get round Staunton Harold Reservoir OK but access by car was still closed off. I managed to find a few new birds for the year – Skylark, Meadow Pipit and single Lesser Redpoll, hiding amongst the Goldfinch and Siskin flock. Otherwise very little of note. I decided to try Melbourne Pool for some photography and a few Black-headed Gulls & Coot were quiet obliging and I did get an adult Yellow-legged Gull fly over the pool area. Our common birds are always worth spending time with. The late morning winter sunshine and ice on the ground make for some good image opportunities. Year List now on 85.
