Good Local Wader

A juvenile Wood Sandpiper was discovered at Willington Gravel Pits, local Derbyshire Wildlife Trust Reserve, on Sunday 9th August 2015. These delicate and attractive sandpipers often turn-up in the county during spring and early autumn. They are an uncommon visitor to my county, so when they do turn-up, it is always worth the effort to go and see them. During early August, however, there has been an influx of these waders arriving into the country, so hopefully a few more may yet arrive. I saw the bird Sunday afternoon and managed a few record shots, from one of the viewing areas affectionately known as “Platform1”.
