Ibis and Egrets at Rutland Water

A Glossy Ibis had been frequenting Rutland Water for some days before I managed to get to see it on the 29th August. It took some finding and I eventually re-located it in front of the visitors centre, as it took to the air from behind reed beds across the far side. I also found two Little Stints, one on Lagoon 1 and one from Shoveler Hide. Several Ospreys were performing at various locations, 8 Ruff from Sheveler Hide, 2 Greenshank from Sandpiper Hide along with a Curlew, 4 Ringed Plover and 2 Little-ringed Plover. Around 8 Great White Egrets, numerous Little Egrets and the usual away of common ducks, including a huge raft of Tufted Duck. I dont think I’ve ever seen so many concentrated in one flock before. Two marsh harrier and a Red Kite from Visitors Centre completed a good mornings birding at this fabulous reserve.
