A bit of a mixed weekend birding wise. Saturday morning (2nd March) my usual early morning visit to SHRes. Not a great deal about, still three Goldeneye, also 64 Wigeon; 12 Pochard and 10 Teal were of note. A male Reed Bunting on the 1st March put me on 85 for the year. Still a few Redwings about. An afternoon trip to Focus Optics, near Coventry was a must, as I needed to get my scope checked over. Something not right in the eyepiece, so off to Swarovski for a check-over. A nice Ring-necked Parakeet feeding on Millet at the Bird Feeder in the garden was a surprise! I'm year ticking it!!
Sunday 3rd March decided to take a trip with Richard & Pete, to the NEC and visit the FOCUS ON IMAGING exhibition. Interesting show but not what I expected. A visit to the nearby Warwickshire Wildlife Trust Reserve at Brandon Marsh, got us a fine drake Green-winged Teal, a little distant for anything other than a record picture. Nevertheless a rather nice bonus year tick. So the Year List moved unexpected on to 106.
A drake Eurasian Teal for comparison.
Note the vertical white breast stripe and lack of complete golden border around the green face patch on above photos of Green-winged Teal
