Winter hit our area with avengance this weekend (23-24th) and it is March, supposedly Spring. I have lived in this area of South Derbyshire all of my life and I have never seen weather like this since about 1963 and certainly not in March. It is more like Siberia at the moment and walking up to my local patch at Staunton Harold Reservoir (inaccesible by Motor Vehicle of any sorts today) it was like the arctic. A raging blizzard and heavy winds with a wind chill factor of around -5. The wind had sculptured amazing drifts across the fields and in places the snow was at least 2 foot deep. Needless to say, little in the way of birds, other than the usual suspects. At least three Goldeneye still around, a drake Gadwall (23rd) and three first winter Great Black-backed Gull & 1 adult. A few Common Gull and numerous small parties of Fieldfare & Redwing moving through. At the feeder 6 Robin, 7 Dunnock and 8 Blackbird.
A few landscapes at Staunton Harold Reservoir and the nearby area this morning.:-
Yes it really is March 2013..!!
Yes, it’s very cold everywhere. If this is spring, roll on summer. Nice snow scenes.
