This morning was stunning, so off early before work to my local patch. A small party of Yellowhammer have been coming to the feeding station, so as the sun was shining, I took the opportunity and grabbed the camera for an hour or so before heading off to the office. I wasn’t disappointed. A Swallow was also a “Patch” year tick, my earliest sighting here.
The Yellowhammer is progressively disappearing from my patch. I hope they have a good breeding season as I fear there are only 3 or 4 pairs left in this area. The maximum I’ve seen together, during the winter, has been 8, five males and three female types. One of the birds that I have photographed, appears to be a possible first winter male. Very pale yellow in colour with obvious white feather edges on the wing and a silvery appearance. I can’t recall seeing this bird before. Wildlife before work, you can’t beat it..
