Spring seemed to have disappeared this morning as we arrived at the RSPB Reserve at Frampton Marsh near Boston, Lincolnshire.

Non-stop rain, a howling gale and freezing cold. Just the day for great photography – NOT. In heavy rain I managed just a few landscape shots of this great reserve but no bird photography to-day. We were the only two birders at the reserve, well it was only 8am on a Sunday morning and the weather was foul. We did managed to find the Black-winged Stilt, along with a few Whimbrel, a good selection of waders on the flooded fields – Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit, Grey Plover, Dunlin, Redshank, Ringed Plover, good numbers of Avocet, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Turnstone. Also 2 Arctic Tern, 4 Yellow Wagtail, small numbers of Swallow, 4 Goldeneye, still large numbers of Brent Geese (c400) and a drake Scaup were the main highlights. On the way home we saw a Cuckoo battling against the cold, the heavy rain & strong wind – I thought to myself, what on earth is happening to our climate?

With Swift & House Martin at Staunton Harold Reservoir in the week, my year list has moved on to 190.

A couple of shots of Frampton Marsh, Lincolnshire – April, grey cold & wet!!
