Plenty of common waders on offer at RSPB Titchwell, in Norfolk and RSPB Frampton Marsh in Lincs. A total of 22 species were seen to-day. Highlights being a 1stw Red-Necked Phalarope at Frampton; 22 Spotted Redshank at Titchwell; c300 Black-tailed Godwit at both sites; c200 Bar Tailed Godwit at Titchwell along with 16 Spoonbill, an impressive sight especially when they all took off for a fly round. Still the weather continues to be grey & cold for the middle of May, we have suffered for nearly three weeks now of miserable conditions. Not very conducive to photography. It was so cold today at Frampton Marsh, Lincs, the Swallows were settling on vegetation to pick at small insects and Swifts were so low they were skimming over our heads. A trip out to the North Norfolk Coast is always a good bet when there is little to do on the local patch scene. Two scarce waders in summer plumage were on show, a fine Temminck’s Stint at Titchwell and a Pectoral Sandpiper at Burnham Norton. It is not often that we get to see summer plumaged Pectoral Sandpipers in Britain. Also at Titchwell there were good numbers of Knot & Black-tailed Godwit, as well as Bearded Tit.
